Bruce Dennis is one of New Zealand’s country music best kept secrets, but now I’m letting the cat out of the bag.
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing Bruce live then you don’t need to read any further, you already know how good this guy is, if not, you’ve been missing out.
I first met Bruce when he was gigging with the legendary covers band called The Great Brain Robbers, I then became their single handed road lizard, doing shows around the North Island. They played a mixture of covers and Bruce’s original songs which he finally recorded as an album called All Our Days in 2008. In my opinion it is one of the finest country albums recorded in the last 12 years in New Zealand.
During the recording of that album Bruce and the band opened for Wayne Mason the writer of New Zealand hit song "Nature", Bruce and the band played so strong the headlining act had a “we have to follow that?” moment and had to play their asses off. A show I will never forget. Now that I think of it, rather than writing a description of how awesome Bruce’s vocals, musicianship and songwriting skills are, just play his music, it speaks for itself.
